Mr. Hemram was landless and depended largely on daily wages and share cropping. None of his children attended school and he had the burden of a loan of NRs. 30,000 with an interest rate of 36%.

After joining the FORWARD supported riverbed farming activities he was able to earn NRs. 40, 000 in the first year which he utilized for enrollment of his children in school after meeting his household expenses.

In the second year he made NRs. 110,000 from which he could save NRs. 60,000 after meeting all household expenses.

In the third year, 2011, he made a total earning of NRs. 135,000. From the savings of the second and third years he has recently bought 0.7 ha of land for NRs. 160,000 - he turned from landless to land owner from just three season riverbed farming.

News & Events

On 10 January 2012 the Riverbed Farming Alliance members signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This Memorandum will support the collaboration and the implementation of common activities in 2012 and beyond.
